Reconstruction usually means a building disappears behind scaffolding. This time the scaffolding itself becomes part of the artwork. The architect and artist Tereza Melková presents a work in public space that uses large-format embroidery and links visual art with architecture and the stories of the places we live in. Her work explores the relationships between the material environment and collective memory, and the way the meanings of places change over time. She focuses on architectural and urban structures that shape social meanings. Melková works with concepts that connect the aesthetic and social dimensions of space and uses large-format embroidery as her artistic medium. She explores how architecture can serve as a means of critical reflection on the past and on current social processes, with embroidery allowing her to visualise narratives and symbolic structures in material form.
