Night at the Island of Culture

Twelve venues. One night. Plenty of ways to enjoy it

The cultural quarter taking shape in the centre of České Budějovice is about to show what it can do. Twelve participating institutions invite you into their spaces for a programme you will not experience at any other time. How you put the evening together is up to you. There is something for everyone: younger and older generations, families with children, groups, couples and people on their own. Your route can lead from a performance for children through an exhibition to an expert lecture. You can walk through the lit-up city to a video mapping show, come across a performance on the way, be carried away by music around the corner and dance on the floor after midnight.

A colourful festival atmosphere, even in February

Public space in the centre of České Budějovice comes alive in February. The riverside buildings, the Museum of South Bohemia and the area around the Slavie Cultural Centre bloom with an original light installation. A canopy of colourful pennants flutters overhead and warm tones make everything around you feel welcoming. Orange, pink, purple and yellow lights shine into the distance and reflect on the surface of the river. For a while you will forget that the calendar still says winter.

In the mood for theatre, a concert, a film, an exhibition, a workshop, a guided tour, literature, a science lecture, light installations or video mapping? Night at the Island of Culture transforms the city centre and, with more than a hundred events to choose from, offers an experience out of the ordinary. Culture lights up the centre of the city — and hopefully you as well.

The event is part of the programme of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028. The programme is free. Selected events need a reservation.
